Chromecast is great, except for the part where your streaming options are pretty limited. They're getting better by the day, but soon, it'll all be a non-issue; a new app called Aircast, can already push all your videos to Chromecast.
Koushik Dutta has been working on stream-everything functionality for the Chromecast for a while, and now the first version of his new app Aircast is proving that it works. If you've got Aircast, all you have to do is play video from Google Drive, or Dropbox, or something stored locally, and pick Aircast in the share menu. It's that easy.
You can go download the app right now, but there's a catch: AirCast is just available for testing purposes, so it's going to stop working tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be long until a real version shows up, and the Chromecast gets the big variety of streaming options it really deserves. But if nothing else, at least we know that it's definitely possible, and a permanent solution is on its way. [Koushik Dutta via Droid Life]
Update: Aircast is now AllCast. Same game, different name.
