An easy-to-install video doorbell so you can monitor your doorstep

One of the most unique features of this video doorbell is its 1:1 square aspect ratio. Most smart doorbells are designed with a wide rectangular viewing frame that leaves out the space just below the door. Because of the Arlo’s square field of view, you can capture your visitors’ faces and any items on the floor at their feet in a single frame. This video also records an entire 180-degree field of view, so it’s tough for anyone to quickly sidestep out of the frame.

You can run the doorbell on the built-in rechargeable battery, or hardwire it to your existing doorbell wiring for continuous trickle charging. The battery lasts about three to six months between charges depending on usage, and the included USB-C cable makes it easy to top off without uninstalling the unit. The included mounting hardware makes setup straightforward at most doorways.

The camera’s 2K resolution sharpens details like license plates, package labels, and faces compared to 1080p doorbells, so you can actually read what’s in the frame. HDR helps it handle the high-contrast scenes typical at front doors, where one half of the frame might be in bright sunlight while the other is in shadow. Night vision keeps things visible after dark, and the IP65 rating means it can withstand rain, heat, and cold without weatherproofing accessories.

The doorbell works with Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, and Samsung SmartThings, offering more cross-platform support than most doorbells. The Arlo app handles motion alerts, two-way audio, and live streaming for free. However, premium features such as person recognition, package detection, and 30-day cloud video storage require an Arlo Secure subscription, which starts at $7.99 a month.

Only $30 for a 2K video doorbell that works across every major smart home platform is a steal. It’s worth grabbing if you’ve been holding off on a video doorbell because you didn’t want to commit to one platform.
