Have Marvel and Sony found their new Spider-Man? Could an Avenger fall in Age of Ultron? Neill Blomkamp talks about his Alien movie. The next Star Wars may begin with a crash landing. Plus, what's next on Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and more. Rejoice, for there are spoilers!

Independence Day 2

Vivica A. Fox will reprise her role as Jasmine in the sequel, director Roland Emmerich announced. The previously announced Jessie Usher (Survivor's Remorse) will play her son. Also in talks to join the second movie: Charlotte Gainsbourg (Nymphomaniac). Original stars Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman will also be back, joined by new star Liam Hemsworth. See the tweet below. [Digital Spy]

Marvel and Sony are apparently very keen on hiring a young actor to take on Spider-Man — they've allegedly held auditions with 16-year-old Weeds actor Mateus Ward for the role. [Badass Digest]

And the role is very specifically now Peter Parker, rather than the opportunity for another character to take on the Spider-mantle. Speaking to a fan on his personal tumblr, Joe Quesada specifically name-dropped making sure these movies get Peter Parker right, instead of just saying Spider-Man:

The trick to making any incarnation of Spider-Man great, whether comics, animation or film is Peter Parker. Get Peter's character right and the rest falls into place.

Take what you will from that, but it certainly seems like Miles Morales may no longer be an option. [CBR]

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Making Star Wars is back with another description of the movie's opening sequence. Allegedly, following their escape from Imperial custody, Poe Dameron and Finn's hijacked TIE Fighter is hit by a blaster bolt from a chasing Star Destroyer, leading to them crash land on the desert planet below. Dameron is knocked unconscious and Finn ejects from the fighter, but passes out on landing. After searching for the fighter, Finn finds Dameron's clothes and changes out of his Stormtrooper armour into them, which leads to Rey not recognising him as an Imperial deserter when they meet later in the film.

As usual, take all this with a pinch of salt.

Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation/Rogue One

Speaking of Star Wars, here's some weird yet intriguing inside baseball stuff — the similarly titled Rogue Nation and Rogue One almost got into a kerfuffle over titling, with Disney's movie apparently not being cleared before it was announced. Instead of chasing after Star Wars to force a name change, Paramount agreed a deal with Disney that means that they cannot discuss Rogue One in a promotional manner over the summer... except for during "a Star Wars fan event in April", which is obviously the upcoming Star Wars: Celebration convention. Neill Blomkamp's Alien

Speaking on the Empire Podcast, Blomkamp revealed that he had to change one element of the story to avoid crossing paths with Prometheus 2:

I changed the one thing [Scott] felt was bumping 'Prometheus' a little bit. One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Responding to a round of rumors posted by Bleeding Cool, Badass Digest had this to offer about the makeup of the Avengers team at the end of the movie:

I am familiar with a couple of drafts of the script (one pre-ScarJo pregnancy, one post) and I can tell you that in both drafts the movie ends with the original Avengers splitting up and going their separate ways. Captain America and Nick Fury put together a new team, missing most of the big solo guns. Iron Man is done, Hulk is missing and Thor has returned to Asgard to deal with the events leading up to Thor: Ragnarok. Those last two are vital - my sources tell me they're sitting out Infinity War Part I as well, which means Marvel wants to take them off the shared universe board until they (along with Captain America) return in Part II. Bringing Thor right back for Civil War makes no sense. Bringing Hulk back makes even less sense, as his disappearance is a pretty big deal at the end of Ultron, and undoing that immediately seems silly.

They also have this to add on the repeated rumours that an Avenger will perish during the movie. Recent rumors have turned their sights from Hawkeye to Quicksilver, but BD affirm that this is not the case:

Here's where it gets weird: in one draft of the script Quicksilver did die. But in the latest draft of which I know he does not. I'm not sure what caused this change of heart - the plans for Infinity War? Whedon taking a shine to the character? - but as far as I know he does not kick the bucket in the movie.

Suicide Squad

And once more, Latino Review's Umberto Gonzalez has details on the film:

#SUICIDESQUAD Pls RT! All about Margot Robbie's #HARLEYQUINN! Got a lot of requests about her so here is what I'm told. Harley Quinn has a few looks throughout the film. Going from traditional with the animated series as a reference to prison attire & in one sequence where they infiltrate a club she swears a dress. Get this, her & Joker's pet Hyena's are in the film briefly. Apparently, Harley with the hyena's are a big motif. Figured fans of #BATMAN:TAS would get a kick out of this one. #skwad #DC #dccu #dccomics #THEJOKER #jaredleto #margotrobbie

Here's Viola Davis on playing the no-nonsense Amanda Waller:

What was the primary factor that got acclaimed actress Viola Davis excited about playing DC Comics' Amanda Waller for the big-screen "Suicide Squad" film? Easy: "That she's Amanda Waller!" says the actress. "That she's badass."

"She's unapologetic," said Davis with more than a hint of admiration. "Everything that I'm reading and studying about her: unapologetic, no humor, just brutal. That's me!"

Terminator Genisys

Jai Courtney talks about the film as a standalone entry in the franchise:

It's not a reboot or a sequel or a prequel," Jai told Variety. "It stands alone. We're introduced to a world that we've seen before. However, when Reese is sent back to save Sarah Connor, something has happened in the process and everything has changed. All the information he has for the mission and the task at hand is different. Therefore, things have been reset and that's where we move forward from. That's about all I can say.

Here's a new synopsis for the movie:

When John Connor (Jason Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline. Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future…

And likewise, here's a new synopsis for the animated film:

The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters—from T. rex to Napoleon—the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression.

But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he—alongside teenage rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob—ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow.

The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award® winner Sandra Bullock), the world's first-ever female super-villain. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in mod London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind...from annihilation.

This film about a married couple on a centuries-long deep space journey has been picked up by Rumble Films. [Deadline]

Finally, here's Mel Rodriguez on his new character, Todd. [TV Guide]

I've said all along that they should introduce Peter Parker first (get both him and the Spider-Man character right this time) and then, eight to ten years or so down the line, introduce Miles in order to basically have a mentor/understudy type of situation... or have Peter die and Miles take over... but I say we need Peter first!
