Apple has teamed up with LG to create a suite of smart home gadgets that will be announced on October 13, Bloomberg reports. If that date sounds familiar, it’s because it’s also when Apple is rumored to announce new first-party devices, including new HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K hardware, as well as a new smart home hub display.

The new co-developed devices will be LG-branded and represent a full suite of security devices—including a doorbell, indoor and outdoor cameras, a floodlight camera, and a smart lock—as well as a smart thermostat, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman writes, citing anonymous sources with knowledge of the products. LG will apparently manufacture the devices and handle product support, according to the report.

FCC regulatory filings reveal some information about the devices. For instance, one labeled “LG Smart Thermostat” shows a device that’s round, like a Google Nest Thermostat, and is Matter-compatible, meaning it should work with any smart home. It will also have Thread, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) radios, per the documents, making it somewhat comparable to the Aqara Thermostat Hub W200, at least in terms of connectivity. The upcoming “LG Smart Deadbolt Lock” will likewise feature Matter, have Thread and BLE radios, and be powered by AA batteries. The Deadbolt Lock will also apparently feature an Ultra Wideband antenna, implying it will be able to automatically unlock as you approach it if you have your iPhone or Apple Watch with you, similar to the Aqara Smart Lock U400 or the Schlage Sense Pro. There will also apparently be a Matter-compatible “LG Temperature Sensor” that runs on CR2477 batteries.

According to Bloomberg, LG’s new smart home devices will be available “a few more months” after Apple’s first-party devices. Apple is also reportedly launching a first-party smart home camera of its own. He writes that all of this is part of “a formal reboot of HomeKit,” Apple’s smart home platform that continues to lag behind those of Google and Amazon. That’s happening against the background of the company’s recent release of the AI-heavy iOS 27 and other operating systems for the Mac, iPad, and so on. The updated operating systems brought with them AI features for Apple Home, namely new AI summaries for HomeKit Secure Video-compatible cameras, which are available as part of Apple’s iCloud+ subscriptions.

Some savvy Apple Home users even found renderings of the devices in the Home app. These appear when you’re setting smart home devices up for the first time in the app.

This isn’t Apple’s first foray into so-called “second-party” partnerships, which include one that created the UltraFine 5K monitor that LG Display created with the company during the almost 10-year gap between the last of the Apple Cinema displays and 2019’s hideously expensive Pro Display XDR. Besides that, Apple has co-developed products with Belkin and Logitech International SA, as Gurman points out.
