Archos, maker of portable audio and video devices, and EchoStar, maker of invisible radiation that is decoded into alternating bands of colored phosphor or vibrations on a paper cone, have announced a limited partnership. Essentially, Archos will make portable/home AV devices that carry EchoStar content. What does this mean? First, it means that Archos and EchoStar are doing all kinds of silly financial stuff. It also means that:
The strategic alliance between EchoStar and ARCHOS includes an extensive new product development initiative as well. ARCHOS will provide EchoStar with portable digital video recorders that allow for high-speed transferring of video content directly from select DISH Network set-top boxes to ARCHOS portable devices.
So you’ll have a set-top box with a portable component. So you won’t have to buy a PC, you won’t have to worry about computability, and why the heck didn’t anyone think of this sooner?
