One of the biggest problems with personal video players is that there isn’t a whole lot of legal content to watch on them. Because it’s illegal to copy a DVD to a computer, and most people won’t want one of these things just to watch home videos, the most likely source of content for these things right now is P2P file-sharing networks like Kazaa, where it’s not too hard to find MPEGs of The Sopranos and The Simpsons. To get around all that, manufacturer Archos is going to start putting special chips from Texas Instruments into their personal video players that supposedly make it possible to copy movies from DVDs and watch them on the player.
