Archos XS 100 Announced

Archos has officially announced the Gmini XS 100, the music player we first mentioned last month—the one Archos describes as having a “significant 3-gigabyte hard drive.” Despite its profoundly significant lack of storage, the XS 100 looks to be a nice unit, available in four colors, and supporting Microsoft’s PlaysForSure and Windows Media Player 10. Archos knows it has a little less oomph than most of the other players, and is setting the recommended price at $180, so it’s not unreasonable to expect it to actually sell of a hair less at launch, making the three-gig player roughly the same price as a one-gig iPod shuffle.

Unlike some of the other products in the Gmini line, the XS 100 does not play video, only music. Press release bullet-point highlights after the jump.
