Is it art? Robot? Public health monitor? All three, actually – not that the name gives any indication of what the hell it’s about (although it’s very lyrical for a robot name, I’ll grant them). The “Wildflower Meadow Glacier” robot is a set of five translucent boxes that moves imperceptibly slowly in the style of an inchworm and monitors carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere as it does it. It’s meant to be installed in a park and to “re-imagine, both beautifully and tragically, our relationship with nature, technology and time.” I give the thing about five hours of monitoring and creeping before some kids either crack it open with a bat and sell the innards to some back-alley servo junkies.
That’s why these Artbots at the Robot Talent Show need more rocket launchers.
