Avatar: The Last Airbender fans have been eating good this week. Keeping the beloved animated series’ momentum going, the creators of the new sequel series, Avatar: Seven Havens, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, nonchalantly announced the show is getting four seasons, plus a new animated series following Avatar Kuruk.

Today’s double-whammy Avatar announcements came during the show’s panel at New York Comic Con. Before that, Konietzko, DiMartino, co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi, and series voice actors Seheli Khan (Pavi), Aishu Devan (Nisha), Major Curda (Jae), and Janet Varney (Korra) took to the stage. They shared Seven Havens concept art, how Moebius and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind inspired the show, and anecdotes about how the series came to be three years ago. Afterward, Konietzko dropped the bombshell that Avatar: Seven Havens would continue with Books 3 and 4. Before today’s panel, we knew it had two seasons and 26 episodes. While the first 13 episodes are currently releasing in batches every Friday on Paramount+, information on when to expect the other books is still under wraps. All that said, it’s a huge relief for fans, since animated shows, especially new series on any streamer, often don’t get renewed after two seasons.

Granted, we’ve known new Avatar projects were in flux. Still, that didn’t keep the surprise announcement that Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, a new animated series, was also on the way. Famously, Avatar Kuruk is one of the more tragic heroes in the Avatar Cycle. Dude lost his wife in a tragedy caused by Koh the Face Stealer, and most of his cameos paint him as a really dark figure in the series mythos. Despite Kuruk’s baggage and the apparent leaks circulating online, Konietzko reassured the NYCC crowd that the series would be an action-comedy. Here’s the show’s official synopsis:

In Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos a rebellious teenage Avatar bucks thousands of years of tradition by choosing to learn the four elements through globetrotting adventures, staying one step ahead of his angry teacher, rowdy pirates, and chaotic spirits—all while helping the world in his own unique ways. The upcoming series is produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios with co-creator Bryan Konietzko serving as showrunner.

At the panel, Avatar Studios revealed a key visual featuring Kuruk and his pet, Nikik. The panel didn’t announce a release date for Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos. But wait, there’s more. Following that announcement, the panel also revealed another new comic project about the fandom’s favorite canceled queen, Korra. While Seven Havens is dragging Korra’s name through the mud, the creators also announced they’re working on a Legend of Korra comic titled The Legend of Korra: The Long Game. The graphic novel will be a trilogy illustrated by Alexandria Monik and written by DiMartino, featuring Korra, Bolin, Zaheer, and Tokuga. Avatar fans will also need to keep an eye out for when the comic arrives.

The first three episodes of Avatar: Seven Havens are streaming on Paramount+
