Big News for the Next Seasons of Daredevil and Agents of SHIELD

Some major details just dropped about the upcoming seasons of Marvel’s two biggest TV series— specifically, their nicknames. For instance, Daredevil showrunner Marco Ramirez is referring to season 2 as “Daredevil Vs. the Punisher” while Agents of SHIELD will basically be bringing Secret Warriors to TV.

Now, we knew Jon Berenthal had been cast as Frank Castle for Daredevil’s second season, but calling “Daredevil Vs. the Punisher” means the show won’t be featuring a heroic team-up anytime soon. Given how often the two superheroes have tangled in the Marvel comics, I’d say that’s quite appropriate.

The bigger bombshell comes in the above promo from Agents of SHIELD season 3, which is being called “Secret Warriors.” Marvel fans might remember that Secret Warriors was a 2009-11 comic where SHIELD agent Daisy Johnson (a.k.a. Quake) lead a team of superpowered operatives—codenamed Caterpillars—for Nick Fury against alien Skrull infilitrators, HYDRA, and other threats. Obviously, Fury isn’t part of the TV series, but Daisy—better known on the show as Skye, of course—is, and Agent Coulson also handed her character a file labeled “Caterpillar” in last season’s finale.

According to Variety:

Season three of “SHIELD” will introduce new friends and foes based on the “Secret Warriors” comic series when it premieres on Sept. 29. In the aftermath of SHIELD’s battle with Jiaying and the Inhumans, Director Coulson (Clark Gregg) will search the world for more powered people and assemble an extraordinary new team to deal with threats unlike the world has ever seen. However, the Agents of SHIELD will soon find out they’re not the only ones tracking down these new Inhumans.

Let’s see: Skye of course has her Inhuman quake powers, I imagine J. August Richards will stick around as Deathlok for a bit. I know that bland Inhuman dude with the electrical powers was made a regular for season 3, so I’m sure he’ll be on the squad. Who else? Any preference for potential characters for the series to bring out of the comics-verse?
