It’s amazing to think that anything from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ended up on the cutting room floor, but this exposition-heavy scene between Gandalf and Elrond—and overheard by Bilbo and Thorin—didn’t quite make it into the first film intact.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition comes out on DVD/Blu-ray November 5.
