Biologist Jelle Atema is working to develop a ‘remote-controlled shark,’ in an attempt to utilize the fishes’ “strikingly large nose” and ability to swim without ceasing to explore hard-to-reach undersea areas. Atema will first use a device that drops smells in the water, then record the pattern of brain activity that causes a shark to veer left or right. Then he’ll skip the bait altogether, wiring electrodes into the sharks’ brains directly to play back those signals, controlling the shark like the internet media controls you weak-minded simpletons. Then he’ll teach it to drive a tank while chomping a cigar and charge us all a buck to drive it.
