CBS Website Shows HTML5 Testing For iPad

An enterprising Mac blogger has been shirking work and poking around CBS' website, and when watching an episode of CSI noticed something strange. It appears CBS is updating its website with HTML5, ready for the iPad launch.

The Other Mac Blog noticed a few "iPad" tags around videos, and when viewing the CBS website with the iPad SDK Simulator, they saw the words "iPad-test-dan-config" below one of the videos. They weren't playable through the simulator, but did show up as Flash videos.

9 To 5 Mac tinkered even further, and managed to play videos in full screen mode, including a full episode of Star Trek.

What does this mean? Well, it suggests CBS is converting its website to a HTML5-ready version suitable for use with the Flash-less iPad, but as 9 To 5 Mac points out, CBS' iPhone site does H.264 video so it's not entirely surprising they want an early start on the iPad too.
