We’ve been on the edges of our seats for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus since we glimpsed some footage at San Diego Comic-Con, but what’s it all about? Earlier plot synopses suggested that we would find out the answers to “life’s ultimate mystery.”

But the latest plot synopsis, released via the film’s Facebook page, suggests the stakes may be a lot higher than we realized — the future of humanity:
Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
