There is literally nothing that has made me more impressed about Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim — and it’s has some mighty impressive trailers — than this featurette revealing the massive, unbelievable, almost zero-CG sets used as the Jaeger’s cockpits.
Seriously, they’re almost as insane as if del Toro has just gone ahead and built giant robots.
Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of del Toro’s work, but if there’s one thing I’ll always respect him for, it’s for his refusal to use CG except to augment practical special effects, or when absolutely necessary. As this featurette reveals, Pacific Rim definitely takes this mantra to the extreme, and I have zero doubt that the movie will be infinitely better for it.
