Just what is going on with Doctor Who? Following rumors surrounding the departure of producer/head writer Russell T. Davies and star David Tennant at the end of this summer’s fourth season, Davies has taken to making cryptic comments in the opposite direction. Talking to UK website Digital Spy, Davies is quoted as saying that “a secret history of phone calls, dinners and face-to-face conversations” has made him a lot more optimistic about the show’s future.

“For Doctor Who, there are many New Years to come. And that’s a promise,” he said. Is Davies staying on after all? Wining and dining a replacement? Stephen Moffat, writer on some of the show’s best episodes as well as current screenwriter for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson’s Tintin movies, has been mentioned as a possible future showrunner. Or is this some kind of special code about “New Years”? Only time will tell. And that’s without any time machine to help out in that direction, sadly.
