Donald Trump Says Online Popularity More Powerful Than Wealth

In a 60 Minutes interview Sunday night, Donald Trump credited the success of his campaign to his following on social media.

“The fact that I have such power in terms of numbers with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. I think it helped me win all of these races where they’re spending much more money than I spent,” the president-elect told Leslie Stahl.

Trump’s campaign had hundreds of millions less than Clinton’s, and chose to spend a good portion of its money in nontraditional ways, like on hats. Throughout his campaign, Trump found himself at the center many, many social media scandals. For example:

“I think that social media has more power than the money they spent,” Trump said. (It’s true. Hillary Clinton spent over a billion dollars on her campaign. 1.3 billion dollars can’t buy an election.) Seems like it’s a rare moment where the president-elect might actually be right.

What was more powerful than wealth was the fact that Herr Asshat tapped into the hidden misogynist, racist, fearful soul that so many of his supporters have been spoon-fed for decades.

Paul Atredies took hold of the Bene Gesserit Missionaria Protectiva that they had created for their potential Kwitzats Haderach despite being a few generations early. Without that ground work he would have never been able to leverage the Fremen in the way he did.

Herr Asshat just took the Republican’s FUD campaign and springboarded using it despite the Republicans not having all their ducks in a row to use it. Like Paul, Herr Asshat managed to be the right person at the right time in the right place to use the lever the Republicans built to pull the whole kit-and-kabodle into his lap.

And right now he’s setting things up for a Fascist rule putting all the extremes into play into his cabinet. Sarah Palin, Rudy Guillani, Chris Christie, fuck. And he probably doesn’t even realize he’s doing it.

I wish I was being hyperbolic here. I’m not. In fact, I’m likely being reasonable. I’m going to miss Obama... a lot.
