The war between the two competing high-capacity, high-definition DVD standards might be drawing to a close. The DVD Forum, the trade group composed of electronics manufacturers and movie studios which decides these things, has thrown its weight behind the standard backed by Toshiba and NEC called “HD DVD”. This doesn’t mean that the “Blu-ray” disc format being developed by Sony, Panasonic, and Philips is dead, but it does mean we can expect to see HD DVD drives and players relatively soon.
