No matter how you felt about Steven Spielberg’s latest alien-centric epic, Disclosure Day, there’s no denying that it’s very thought-provoking throughout or that its ending raises some big questions that don’t get answered. That ambiguity is part of the point, of course, and Disclosure Day star Emily Blunt—whose powerful performance is another of the film’s undeniable elements—isn’t so sure a sequel is necessary to untangle anything left unresolved.
“Listen, we would all be beside ourselves to get back together and be with Steven again,” she said to Entertainment Weekly. “But we’ll have to see just how this story hits people and if it’s wanted.”
That makes sense; if Disclosure Day reaches a certain box-office level (the opening weekend was respectable, but not record-breaking), sequel talk will become inevitable. However, Blunt also said, “I think there’s way more room for discovery in this life-or-death race between those who believe the truth belongs to people and the forces who are trying to keep the secrets concealed. I think there’s more to explore there.”
Blunt’s co-star Colman Domingo agreed and also expressed curiosity about what happens in the movie’s world after the big reveal that aliens are real. “What happens to the government? What happens to religion? What happens to anything that we know? I’m very curious about that,” he said.
After Disclosure Day is our pitch for the title, in case Spielberg decides to explore the continuing story. Are you interested to see what happens next?
