Engineers Warn of Crashing Semiconductor Market

The semiconducter industry is taking it in the crotch when it comes to cellphones, continually racing to cram more and more features into handsets that oftentimes don’t sell for as much as they cost to make — at least according to the EE Times, but hey, they would know, right? Still, there seems to be a little sky-is-fallingism in the article, because while the coming convergence of portable devices (MP3 players, phones, cameras, PDAS, etc.) may cause fewer items to sell (with fewer profit margins), it should continue to push the need for more and more semiconducters and flash memory products as people continue to upgrade to newer, more converged devices.

The gadgets may change, but the lust for new gadgets seems to stay the same. Then again, I’m an idiot, so weigh those two things together.
