Fairphone, the company known for its extremely repairable phones, has a new pair of ultra-repairable wireless earbuds coming. According to The Verge, Fairbuds 2 will launch on Oct. 14 and will have seven replaceable parts. Official details are sparse, as is info on what other improvements the Fairbuds 2 will bring over the original buds, but The Verge reports that they’ll come with improved Bluetooth and support for LDAC, Sony’s codec for hi-res streaming.
One thing fans of Fairbuds will be happy to see is that the price is actually coming down. The Verge reports that they’ll launch in the U.S. for $119 after first being released in Europe. The original Fairbuds debuted in Europe at €149, which was about $162 USD.

For a bit more of a teaser, here’s an official post from Fairphone that shows more of the look. Not much to go off here, but I do like the green. For a more unofficial teaser, there are leaks from a Dutch tech blog that point to one major design shift. While the first-gen Fairbuds were just a little ball that you put in your ear, these leaks suggest that there will be a stem attached to the Fairbuds 2, though whether that stem will have touch or squeeze controls is still TBA. Leaks also point to a black color, which isn’t exactly blowing my mind, but it’s nice if you’re a green hater.
The biggest thing anyone interested in Fairbuds will be on the lookout for is what’s replaceable. In the first generation, you could replace and repair almost everything, including the battery in the earbuds and the case, and you can even order a single earbud if you lose one of yours. I assume Fairphone will try to retain most of that modularity if not expand on it, but we don’t know until we know (in T-minus two weeks).
