First Ebola Patient Returns to U.S., But Don’t Freak Out

Dr. Kent Brantly, the first of two American patients infected with Ebola in West Africa, has just been transferred to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s the first time the human disease has reached the States—but you have absolutely zero reason to panic.

First off, Dr. Brantly (and the second patient who arrives next week) will be under the closest possible observation by the world’s top infectious disease experts. They will be quarantined in purpose-built containment wings far away from any other patients, and their care will be directed by experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

But more importantly, Ebola just isn’t contagious the way that colds, flus, and other diseases are, as Gizmodo’s Sarah Zhang explains.
