Fresh Pics of Collapsible, Portable Microsoft Arc Laser Mouse

Thanks to tipster Alex, we've got some fresh hands-on pics of the new Microsoft Arc mouse, which we got a first look of back in July. The $60 mouse folds down to half its size for easy portability thanks to what the packaging calls a "strong metal hinge," and the glossy veneer, to quote Blam, is indeed "flip and drool" worthy.

According to Alex, the tiny USB dongle attaches to the underbelly of the Arc when not in use via a magnet, and there's a storage bag for travel purposes. The packaging quotes a 30-foot range, and jumping is non-existent, says our tipster.

i got a couple of these today, they're rather nice. smooth motion, comfortable arc, small receiver and foldability is nice.

the mouse turns off when folded, good for saving battery.

the receiver is magnetically attached to the bottom of the rear part of the mouse, very elegant.

the mouse buttons with the exception of scroll-wheel click are very quiet; i can barely hear them over the fan in this room.

it's not without its [minor] problems though.

overall the mouse is somewhat small, probably not good for people with large hands.

the arc design means there's the segment towards the back where there's nothing under the mouse, and when i try to grip the mouse, my pinky finds only air, which is always a little jarring/confusing, but not really a problem. something to get used to.

finally, the protective pouch is very nice. closes magnetically and should do a decent job of keeping the mouse safe amidst a bag full of nasty scratchy cables and other such things. it's basically a wider, shorter version of the pouch they bundle with the flash zunes.

Will this replace my lachesis at home? hell no. but it will make for a great mouse at work, and i'll be keeping another in my laptop bag for traveling.
