Yes, yet another attempt to bring back Zorro to theaters is being made, this time with Jonás Cuarón in the director’s chair, Bernal wearing the mask…. and set in the “near future.”

This Zorro reboot, called Z, will be written and directed by Cuarón. Both the writer-director and the actor have worked together before on a film called Desierto, which will be released later this year.

Z’s take on Zorro will retain the masked vigilante part, but will abandon its original setting (California, when it was part of Mexico in the 18oos). Which is at least better than the post-apocalyptic reboot Zorro Reborn that was in the works for a while. And apparently wholly different from the Zorro script that Sony had Chris Boal writing. Everyone wants to reboot Zorro, but it looks like Cuarón and Bernal will be the first to get there.
