Here's the first trailer for The Walk, the 2015 film about Philippe Petit, the man who tight rope walked between the two World Trade Center towers in 1974. My stomach just dropped a little bit.
The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the daring wire walker. The story may sound familiar to you, one, because it's a very famous tale. And two, because it was the focus of the excellent 2008 documentary Man on Wire.
It's a gripping story—the World Trade Center was barely open when Petit walked on his wire, and he had to sneak into the building to illegally place the wire between the two structures. He made it! The real-life footage of the feat, which you can see in the documentary, is unbelievable. I look forward to seeing how it translates to a Hollywood interpretation, and if tricks like IMAX and 3D can help the dizzying spectacle live up to the fantastic documentary. The Walk opens October 2, 2015.
