So today is my last day at Gizmodo. Or, well, Friday was, and by now I am relaxing somewhere not thinking about gadgets. But in any case, I'm done.
It's been a pretty amazing run here, lasting nearly four years, and I'm going to miss the hell out of it. What other job pays you to test drug paraphernalia and sex toys, to create goofy videos and unscientific quizzes? No other job, that's what.
But all good things must come to an end, which is why I've decided to move on.
I'm starting a new website called Splitsider with the guys behind The Awl. It's going to be a blog that focuses on comedy, one of my biggest passions, and I'm very, very excited about it. It's launching soon, and I hope you'll come check it out. You can follow the Splitsider Twitter account for updates on it and details on the launch.
But back to Gizmodo. I need to thank all of my coworkers who really made this job the amazing experience that it was. First and foremost, I've gotta thank Blam, who not only took a leap on hiring me way back in 2006 but has always encouraged me to do what I was good at and what I thought was fun rather than trying to fit into some other sort of tech writer mold. I certainly wouldn't have been around for this long if I didn't have someone so supportive egging me on. For better or worse.
And the rest of the Gizmodo crew, past and present, well, they're some of the most fun coworkers anyone could ask for. I'm not quite sure how I'm going to stay sane without the always-entertaining chatroom chugging along in the background all day while I work. And I'm going to be a little heartbroken come January when I'm not in Vegas with the crew, eating ridiculous meals, drinking way too much and gambling irresponsibly. But then, that sadness may be outweighed by the total joy I'll feel not actually having to step onto the CES show floor again. We'll see!
And of course, the readers and commenters. It's not an exaggeration to say that half the fun of working at Giz is seeing how you guys react to our posts. I'll probably never work anywhere else that has such a fun, crazy and diverse group of people reading and reacting to what I write. I'll miss you crazy bastards! Keep in touch!
So yeah, it's been a great ride, one that I wouldn't give up for anything and will miss like hell. But, hey, you gotta take a leap sometimes, right? But I'm comforted by the fact that I'll still show up here on Giz with features on a semi-regular basis, so it's not a complete goodbye.
I'll leave you with, if not my finest work, some of my favorite things that I've done in my time here at Giz. Please click on all of them lots of times so Blam will give me a nice fat going-away bonus. I mean, it's the least you could do, right?
