Google has announced the first expansion of its new Fiber service. Its internet provision will now spill out of Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo., into the city of Olathe, Kan.—a Kansas City suburb with 125,000 residents.
Google first rolled out Fiber to Kansas City homes late last year, and since it’s been widely applauded. It’s not clear when Olathe will receive the Big G’s sweet, sweet internet, but it’s a sign that Schmidt and co mean business when it comes to installing fiber.

In fact, the announcement—which came late last night, reports Wall Street Journal—was accompanied by the news that Google is poised to offer the service in other locations, too. Interestingly, the Olathe website states that the city is hoping a wireless network will hit the city.
Currently, Google Fiber customers in Kansas City pay $70 a month for high-speed internet access or $120 a month with TV, which includes 500 hours of DVR storage and the ability to record eight shows simultaneously. There’s also a free internet option—capped at 5Mbps—which residents can use after a one-off $300 fee. [WSJ]
