The Google Pixel 9 is the standard model of Google’s previous-generation flagship Android phone, the more affordable sibling to the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL. You get a 6.3-inch Actua OLED display, the Tensor G4 chip that powers most of Google’s on-device AI features, a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultrawide, and IP68 water resistance, all in a flatter, more refined body than the Pixel 8 had. The full Gemini AI suite is built into the operating system, so you can run image generation, smart summaries of text, and Pixel Screenshots without sending data off the phone.

The Pixel 9 is at $449 on Amazon right now, which is $350 below Google’s $799 list price. Trade-in credit through Amazon can knock off another $430 depending on the device you turn in, so you could get it for as low as $19.

An Android smartphone that’s perfect for casual and hardcore users

You get substantial camera hardware improvements compared to previous generations of Pixels at this price point. The 50 MP primary sensor captures a lot of light and delivers photo quality that has come to be expected from the Pixel series. Plus, AI features like Magic Eraser let you remove unwanted objects from the background of your photos, while Best Take lets you replace faces captured in a burst sequence so everyone is facing the camera.

The Actua OLED display can reach 2700 nits of outdoor brightness. This means you can view text in direct sunlight without having to hold your phone at an angle to avoid glare. The framerate also dynamically adjusts to save battery life. So, it’s lower when viewing static content vs. when you’re watching video or gaming.

Gemini Live is one of the more useful features the Pixel 9 introduces. You can hold a natural back-and-forth conversation with Google’s AI assistant rather than the older question-and-answer style of voice commands. Pixel Screenshots organizes screenshots into a searchable visual library you can pull up by typing what you remember about the content. Call Assist screens unknown numbers automatically and transcribes voicemails in real time.

Battery capacity sits at 4700 mAh, enough for most users to get through a full day on mixed use. You also get 27W wired charging and 15W wireless through Qi2, so a 15-minute top-up gives you several more hours of runtime. Google has committed to seven years of OS and security updates, so the phone you buy today will keep getting Android upgrades through the rest of the decade.

At $449 before trade-in, the Pixel 9 lands $350 under Google’s $799 list. Stacking the max trade-in offer of $430 on top brings the net cost as low as $19 for buyers turning in eligible phones, which makes a current-generation Pixel reachable on a much tighter budget than the full sticker price would suggest.
