Fans at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival got an early look at the first part of Batman: Knightfall, an animated trilogy coming later this year. But everyone else still gets an energetic trailer to look at, and it’s stuffed with villains from the iconic early ’90s comics storyline. Including, of course, the back-breaker himself, Bane.
Oh yeah, and the increasingly battered and weary Batman (voiced by Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ Anson Mount) gets to show off, too.
Michael Mando voices the extra-enhanced version of Bane, and Pablo Schreiber is the volatile Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael.
“When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point,” reads the official description.
It’s based on DC’s monumental “Knightfall” story arc that ran from 1993 to 1994, with an array of talents involved, including Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle, and Jim Balent.
Batman: Knightfall Part One is directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams. Look for its release from DC, Warner Bros. Animation, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment later in 2026.
