A complete run-down of my thoughts when watching this video: “A grindhouse-style trailer for Gotham? Okay.” “Wow, the person who made this did a great job.” “Man, it’s crazy how perfectly this Gotham footage works as an R-rated exploitation flick from the ‘70s.” “Wait a second. This is an official trailer?!”

Yes, Gotham itself released this trailer for itself, starring those bad girls Barbara Kean and Tabitha Galavan, who have, like so many other characters on the show, been sidelined so we can watch Gordon and Lee Thompkins’ failed relationship keep failing. (Although to be fair Barbara was recently also an imaginary bellhop when Gordon was on a Mad Hatter-induced LSD trip.)

This silly video actually encapsulates the show rather perfectly. It’s as sexy/naughty/sleazy as it can be without being explicit for a movie trailer (or too “mature” for a primetime network TV series); it’s full of insane, gratuitous violence (which is of course perfectly fine for both “approved for all audiences” trailers and primetime network TV); and it’s called “Sirens,” which makes you think it actually has something to do with Gotham City Sirens, and thus has some authentic connection to Batman, but actually doesn’t at all.

Two episodes ago, young Bruce Wayne’s storyline was devoted to making dinner for young Selina and then hoping she’d come by Wayne Mansion to eat it. That’s it. That was his entire storyline.
