Below, a video demonstrates Android running successfully on the HTC Touch Pro2, which is normally seen sporting the not-quite-as-fashionable Windows Mobile coat. It looks very smooth, and with that slide-out keypad and 3.6-inch screen, could be what you've been after.

A HTC Diamond2 port for Android didn't work nearly as well, but judging by the video Touch Pro2 owners sick of Windows Mobile 6.1 are in for a treat. Of course, the usual caveats of breaking the warranty, risking blowing up your phone, blah blah blah, all still apply—but we trust you. [PocketNow via Android Community via SlashGear]

The reason for the lagginess is not only due to the fact it's running from a microSD card, but also due to the ancient hardware. The Touch Pro 2's technically a contemporary device with a big, WVGA screen. But its innards use a chipset that's essentially almost 3 years old.

Still, it's nice to have the option to run it I suppose. I'm on Sprint SERO so the TP2 looks like it may be my last stop on the train before I have to jump to a regular plan. I actually love the flexibility of WM 6.5.x. But it'd be fun to jump into Android some too.
