HBO and Paramount TV are teaming up to bring Martin Scorsese’s creepy horror flick Shutter Island to the small screen.

Deadline is reporting that the new series, possibly titled Ashecliffe, is centered around the creation of the island-located mental institution. So this would predate the 1954-set film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Rumor has it Scorsese will return to direct the pilot and Dennis Lehane, author of the original novel, will pen the script.

According to Deadline, “The focus is the past of hospital, and the secrets and misdeeds perpetrated by its founders who erected the hospital in the early 20th Century and developed the methods of treatment use for the mentally ill.” Sounds like more American Horror Story fodder but with a potential historical bent (if you’re involved, Scorsese). One thing’s certain, this period medical drama can’t be bloodier than The Knick, right? Oh god, we hope so.
