Hitachi Maxell and Verbatim got together over weekend for the annual HD DVD Barbecue, and while they were there, they figured out mass HD DVD-R production. In fact, existing DVD-R lines can supposedly be converted to HD DVD-R lines in a matter of minutes.
Hopefully for them and the entire HD DVD camp, it won’t turn into a HD DVD+RW DL (or whatever) acronym mess that recordable DVDs have. Mass production of HD DVD-R is scheduled to begin Spring 2006, right when other HD DVD products will be launched.
