The world is full of assholes and in the black-and-white world of a teenager's mind, everyone is an asshole. But no matter how much time you spent in high school wishing meatheads, or whoever, would die—you'd never actually kill them would you?
In Heathers, Veronica Sawyer is a hater just like you. The popular kids are jerks, but there's nothing she can do about it. Until J.D. shows up in her life. He's creepy, he's charming, and he's got a seriously questionable plan about how to teach jocks and the cheerleaders a deadly lesson.
J.D. is crazy. And the premise of this movie is ludicrous. Or is it? This is a comedy, and the characters really don't seem too much like people you knew in high school—at least not people I knew in high school. But the in the last 20 years we've seen too many incidents in which confused, alienated kids snap. Don't get me wrong, this is a lighthearted film that's more about the style than the content. It's worth watching for Winona Ryder and Christian Slater alone. But between the absurd dialogue, and broad generalizations about high school life there's a lot of truth. Most kids have a really shitty time. If you can't see yourself in Veronica, well, it probably means that back in the day, you were one of them [Netflix]
