David Fincher’s camerawork has helped establish him as one of the most talented directors working today. In the latest installment of Every Frame a Painting, Tony Zhou (previously here and here) looks at what Fincher does – and, more importantly, what he doesn’t do – that sets him apart.

Zhou’s analysis actually examines scenes from a representative sample of Fincher’s films and TV shows. The whole thing is definitely worth watching, but Zhou’s dissection of Se7en (which is pleasantly spoiler-free – but, if you haven’t seen it, why are you even still reading this?) struck me as particularly revealing of Fincher’s measured shooting style
