Today at Comic-Con, we sat down with Gareth Edwards, director of the new Godzilla movie. Most of the film will be based on the 1954 original film, but Edwards hinted that there might be more than one kaiju in this origin story about the Big G.

I asked Edwards whether this movie would be set in the universe of the 1954 film, where the only monster in the world is Godzilla, or whether it would be part of the Godzilla universe that includes Monster Island and all of Godzilla's kaiju frenemies.
Edwards said we'd find out more tomorrow when he unveils some footage from the 2014 movie, which just wrapped shooting yesterday. But he did offer this tantalizing comment. "I'd like to see a Godzilla movie where there are other creatures. And I'm the director of the film, so make of that what you will," he said with a grin.
If you recall, Edwards is the writer/director and creature creator for the indie flick Monsters, which was about an infestation of giant monsters in Mexico. So we know this guy has a taste for herds of kaiju. Let's hope we'll get some multi-monster action in Godzilla! We'll be able to reveal all tomorrow, after we see the footage.
