Hollywood entertainment columnist Nikki Finke launched her new news/gossip site today, and she did it with a doozy — the possible release calendar for Warner Bros.' DC superhero movies. If this list is true, it's bonkers — including Shazam, a Green Lantern/Flash team-up, and even Man of Steel 2.
Yes, Man of Steel 2, a very different movie from Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Here's the list:
• May 2016 – Batman v Superman
• July 2016 – Shazam
• Xmas 2016 – Sandman
• May 2017 – Justice League
• July 2017 – Wonder Woman
• Xmas 2017 – Flash and Green Lantern team-up
• May 2018 – Man Of Steel 2
And then there's this:
According to my source, "Like Marvel's The Avengers, there will be cameos of superheroes for future installments. The cameos will include the already known Cyborg and Flash. Green Lantern [not played by Ryan Reynolds, thank god] may be introduced. And Aquaman will be seen in the Justice League movie."
So... wow. First of all, without getting into all the drama surrounding Nikki Finke, let's say that in her heyday she had plenty of scoops of this level. So assuming it's legit, there's some major bombshells here.
A Shazam movie before a Wonder Woman movie? Weird. I guess WB has given up all pretense of BvS being the Man of Steel sequel? Probably for the best. A Green Lantern/Flash movie? Well, there's almost no way they use the CW Flash TV show as the basis — they'll want a movie star in the role — so I guess we'll have two Flashes running around. (No pun.) And what about Green Lantern? Will he be Hal Jordan? John Stewart? There's no way WB will have Ryan Reynolds reprise the role, but will they pretend the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie is part of this continuity or ignore it entirely? Much like Marvel moved from Ed Norton to Mark Ruffalo in-between Incredible Hulk and Avengers?
Time will tell, and of course, any part of this schedule can change between now and San Diego Comic-Con. But if nothing else, it seems like Warner Bros. finally has a plan.
