You don't have to be an expert at reading tea leaves to figure that Apple is working on wireless iPods. Sleuths at Reg Hardware uncovered a little tidbit: PortalPlayer, supplier of the audio logic innards of Apple's iPod, is going to be adding WiFi and Bluetooth support to its products.

It sure would be nice to get rid of all those wires, using a Bluetooth stereo headset to pick up the signal from an iPod 20 feet away. Plus, think of downloading music when you're sitting at your local WiFi hotspot, or syncing up with iTunes without the encumbrance of all those pesky wires.

Adding fuel to the fire of speculation here is Apple's mysterious press event slated for later this month, where there was an Airport Express WiFi adapter allegedly pictured on the invitation. Put two and two together, clever readers.
