Early forensics scientists in 1919 used this image of opium and smuggling containers to help them identify the drug when it came up in their investigations.

You can see opium poppies and a brick of opium, as well as several boxes and little containers for holding the stuff. According to Shorpy, the retro photo blog, the photograph is labeled, “Treasury, Internal Revenue Department; methods of smuggling opium.” It’s like a CSI moment from almost a century ago.

This is via the excellent Shorpy, where you can see this photo in an even bigger size!
