Young Jacob Kurtzberg would grow up to become the hugely influential comics artist Jack Kirby, but by age 14, he was already a fairly skilled cartoonist, even submitting his black-and-white cartoons to the likes of the New Yorker.
These particular pieces are featured in Kirby Unleashed, which includes many pieces from Kirby’s portfolio and is available in PDF form from TwoMorrows Publishing. Although these particular pieces were ultimately rejected by the New Yorker, they give us a glimpse of what Kirby was capable of, even at an early age.
