Japanese Paper Robots Prepare for Battle

This week, at a media art festival in Tokyo, these twelve miniature paper robots are preparing to kick some pulpy ass. Birdman (the guy in the ring, on the left) is the likely winner because he’s been around for a long time and he can fly.

These intricately designed killing machines are all hand-crafted by designer Tomohiro Yasui, who was inspired by Gundam and pro-wrestling to make his first paper robot at age 11 and has since created hundreds more. Each fighter has unique characteristics and a life story, and, like any normal robot culture, the Kami-Robo world is mired in drama.
