The Giga Vu Pro from Jobo is a solidly-built device that has a lot of potential. Not only does it serve its main purpose well—backing up CompactFlash cards filled with photos to its internal, 60GB hard drive—but it runs Linux, meaning there’s quite a bit in the way of PDA-like and gaming functionality waiting to be unlocked. It can even playback movies on its 320 by 240 pixel screen in MPEG and DivX formats, as well as allow photo editing via a touchscreen interface. It has some quirks (the touchscreen isn’t always activated, for instance) and it looks sort of bulbous, but it’s a quietly effective second-generation portable media device, and is probably worth looking into—especially if you want to squeeze a lot of extra function out of a $500-600 device (as well you should).
