Jupiter’s Great Red Spot Looking Like a Swirl of Cream in Your Coffee

This might look like a splash of cream in your coffee—but in fact it’s Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, imaged by NASA’s Voyager 1 spacecraft.

It’s swirling rather faster than the spoon in your cup could manage, too—in fact, the winds that carry the clouds that create the spot move in excess of 400 mph, creating raging storms three and a half times the size of Earth. Gulp. The image was actually created recently using three black and white negatives captured decades ago. [NASA]
