Ars got their nerdtastic mitts on an Xbox 360 Arcade product shot—the new 360 version we detailed for you yesterday. There's not much else to say other than look at the picture, but you'll notice that the 360 Arcade's DVD drive is the same gimpy white as the Core's, instead of the majestic silver like the Platinum's. I agree that the white DVD drive looks better than the gaudy chrome one. White matches the rest of the WHITE console better. It's as simple as that.
I think this is a great move by Microsoft. The only thing holding the Core 360 back was the lack of a memory card, and now that problem has been fixed. And if the reports of HDMI in the new Arcade model are true, that means that the only thing needed to make it an Elite 360 is a 120GB hard drive.
When I finally get a 360, it'll be the Arcade model. I don't care much about Xbox Live or HD downloads right now, but I'll have the option of buying the 120GB hard drive (I wouldn't mess with the dinky 20GB one) if I do start caring about those things at some point in the future.
And the lack of component cables in the Arcade package doesn't really bother me. I've been thinking of going with VGA over component anyway.
