There’s good news if you work in Maryland. On Monday, it became the first state to pass a bill banning employers from requesting passwords to Facebook, Twitter, or accounts of employees or applicants.
It passed in both houses of Maryland’s General Assembly, with unanimous support in the Senate and only 10 representatives voting against it in the House.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) had taken up the cause after reports surfaced that the state’s Department of Corrections had demanded the password of long-time staffer Robert Collins.
Other states are following Maryland’s lead; similar laws have been introduced in Illinois, California, Minnesota, Michigan, Massachusetts. New Jersey is likely to jump on board soon, too. [Daily Caller via Ubergizmo]
