Microsoft Patent Shows A Dual-Mode Xbox 360 Controller

A Microsoft patent shows off a new dual-mode Xbox 360 controller that can be used both wired and wirelessly. Unlike the current play and charge kit, this controller would give you the accuracy of a true wired mode when plugged in.

Right now when you use the play and charge kit, the controller is still in wireless mode when plugged in. Having a dual-mode controller would put the controller in a true wired mode, thus giving the gamer the benefit that extra millisecond of fastness. Is it worth buying a new controller for? Probably not, but it's nice to have options, I guess. [US Patent via Being Manan]

Hello Mister Walrus

Has anyone actually measured and quantified the delay from using wireless controllers? It always seems like an excuse that people use to justify their losing.
