Modeled after Copenhagen’s Islands Brygge Metro Station, this build comes complete with NXT controlled sliding platform doors (which even open at the same time!) and a working elevator. MOC builder Esben Kolind showcased this impressive engineering feat at Lego World 2013 in Copenhagen. There's a 9V train running on an outer loop and the underground metro running on the inner loop. It’s quite a technical build with all sorts of clever features and it functions beautifully.
The scene itself is also charming, depicting the hustle and bustle of commuters. But, it’s the engineering behind the build that’s amazing. The NXT controls the trains, which run in a loop, and the opening mechanism for the three sets of doors, as well as the running elevator. A light sensor stops the train on the platform, and a distance sensor stops the elevator. This is Kolind’s fourth train model (he’s a bit of a train enthusiast). I wish I had this kind of engineering skill as a kid, when my brother and I were building model trains in our basement. [EuroBricks]
