Just sit and listen. Give it some time. At first it may just sound like a repetitive piano loop. A minute in, it opens up and starts to get a little weird. Don’t run off! It won’t hit you right away. Somewhere around the 3:30 mark it all comes together and hits you with its holy shit moment.

“Replica” is the lead track off Oneohtrix Point Never’s album of the same name, in which he majority of the songs were constructed using samples from a DVD of old TV commercials he bought online. The track is solitary and melancholic, but also intensely beautiful. It’s got that feeling of nostalgia that you can’t quite place. And it’s got that edge to let you know that this is music most people are a decade away from being ready for. [Software]
