PalmOne has released an update for Sprint Treo 650 users which aims to fix spotty voice quality and make the flash file system more space-efficient. What it doesn’t do is add dial-up networking (DUN), a critical oversight that continues to be a font of bullshit from both Sprint and PalmOne. The DUN functionality, if you recall, was promised back in October to be coming ‘soon,’ but it’s now five months later with no official DUN support in sight. Of course, the community unlocked DUN via an unofficial patch months ago.

I have no idea why Sprint and PalmOne continue to give customers the run-around, but for an organization that’s already teetering near irrelevancy, PalmOne would do well to offer a better excuse than “[we are] continuing to test our DUN implementation.”
