Speaking to a Brazilian website, Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi noted that the BBC has cast a new companion for the Doctor, and we should know very soon who that is.

Jenna Coleman left the show last year, opening up the spot for a replacement. In an interview with Brazilian website Omelete, Capaldi noted that the Doctor’s new companion would be very different from Clara:

Clara had prior knowledge of the Doctor. It was conceived as a human connected to your timeline, and so had access to the cosmic nature of the Doctor. She understood a little about how he was. And as she was already with Matt (Smith), she knew the Daleks and the TARDIS. Now we have someone who knows very little about the Doctor.”

Capaldi didn’t indicate when an announcement would come about Clara’s replacement, but did note that he has met her as they prepare for the upcoming season. Back in February, RadioTimes noted that former EastEnder actress Rakhee Thakrar was in the running to take over the role.
